Sermon: “That son of YOURS!!” The teenage son…the younger son raging and complaining. Finally, graduation and off to college. He said he would never return home. The elder son could have gone to college, but instead he chose to stay and work the family business. The prodigal son comes home and his father forgives him and throws a party to celebrate the son’s homecoming. The elder son was Angry!! He had committed his life to the business and does not party or have friends. The parable has a two-edge sword. Our God recklessly wastes His love. He invites in sinners. We are forgiven by God’s reckless love. We can’t do this ourselves; we are lost and God finds us. Rev. James L. Sermon: “Bearing Fruit”. When two people are asked a question, you get 3 or more answers. Some are hopeful and some are pessimistic. Some see nothing good and say, ‘cut it down’. Then another has an idea, and says, ‘give it more time’. Who gave up on you and then someone else gave you a chance? In God’s world we can always expect the unexpected. Eventually all of us will bear fruit – be patient and hopeful. Rev. James L. Sermon: “The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend”. Herod the rich versus Jesus the Prophet. The pharoses warned Jesus of Herod’s plot to kill Him. Herod was the enemy of both the pharoses and Jesus. By Holy Week, Herod wasn’t really interested in killing Jesus, but this week Herod did. Jesus wasn’t going to run away from the threat. He would continue His work no matter the risk. Our faith in Jesus Christ is our parachute. He will never leave us, or forsake us. Jesus tells us to keep on going, don’t quit, keep telling the good news. Rev. James L. Sermon: “Temptation”. We all know what temptation is, everyone has faced it. Its everywhere we are. Jesus was just baptized. Now the Holy Spirit has taken Him to the wilderness. Jesus had many lessons to learn. He grew in wisdom and faith through these trials. Temptation is a necessary evil for us to grow in faith and wisdom, for all of us. Rev. James L. Transfiguration Sunday. Sermon: “Mountain Top Experience”. Mountain top experiences are inspiring, moving, exciting, trans figurative, and/or thrilling. Jesus took a couple disciples to the mountain to pray. Moses and Elija appear with Jesus. A voice from heaven says: This is my beloved son, listen to Him. Then they leave the mountain. The mountain top experience is done. Christians do not live to find mountain top experiences. Real Christian life happens with the people who need us, with the children of God. We live in service to teach, preach, and heal. We need to be inspired maybe occasionally. Its about how we use our lives for the sake of God and for the sake of all of God’s children. Rev. James L.
